Where the facts come from and how we check them

Where the facts come from

We read each place’s own website and record what it says it offers children: ages, the weekly timetable, prices and what they cover, languages, trial classes and whether a parent must stay.

Addresses, map positions and opening hours can also come from the place’s Google Maps listing. For a sports club, membership of a federation can come from the club list that federation publishes.

Every fact is stored with the address of its page, the date we read it and a short quote in the language of that page. Directories, news articles, booking platforms, social media and reviews are never used as sources.

Source flags

Every source has one of three flags: published by the place (its own website), Google listing (its Google Maps entry), federation list (a sports federation’s register of member clubs).

On a place’s page the flag and the date sit next to each fact, so you can see its origin and its age.

Facts that are not published

If the pages we read do not give a fact, the place’s page says it is not published and the table shows a dash. “Not published” describes our sources; it says nothing about the place.

Missing facts are never guessed. A school year such as terza elementare is not turned into an age. A price keeps the period the place states; the one calculation we make is the ≈ price per class, a package or course price divided by the classes it includes.

Class times and opening hours

Two columns hold times. Class times: the days and hours of a course, a care session or a camp day, as the place gives them. Opening hours: when the building is open, often taken from the Google listing.

A place can be open at an hour when no group for a given age is meeting. A row that has opening hours and nothing more is placed under the dividing line, below a heading that explains it.

The after-school pages look at weekdays from 16:30 to 19:00, after a full school day (tempo pieno). A course is counted when one of its groups starts within that span; a doposcuola is counted when its hours, extended hours included, cover the span in full.

What we do not assess

  • No place, teacher, coach or programme receives a rating, a score or a rank.
  • No one goes to the places in person; each fact is taken from a published source.
  • The quality of teaching, coaching or care is not judged.
  • We do not track whether a group still has room; ask the place.
  • Prices are shown as published, with their period and date, and are not confirmed with the place.

Right to reply

If you run a listed place and a fact is wrong, missing or out of date, send a correction through the correction form with a link to the page that states the right fact.

A correction supported by the place’s own pages is applied in the next update and noted in the edit history. A place that has closed keeps its page, marked closed, and leaves every table.

A place can also ask to leave the list: choose “Ask to remove a listed place” in the correction form and give a contact showing you run it. The place, its page and its records in the data files are removed within a month.

Dates and updates

Every place’s sources are read again within 6 months of the last reading. Prices published for a period that is over stay on the place’s page with that period; the filters and the summary line ignore them.

How the site is paid for

Places do not pay to appear, and no payment changes a row or where it stands in the table.

A place’s page may carry one link to Zartrace, a service affiliated with this list and labelled as such. Clicks on the contact buttons are counted as totals only, with no personal data.

Open data

You can download the full list as JSON, one record per place, or as CSV, one row per programme. Both files include every source, flag and date, and state their licence.

Areas, distance and the map

Areas are the neighbourhoods (quartieri) of the city of Milan, the official local districts the Comune calls NIL, the towns around it and a few residential districts such as San Felice. The smallest neighbourhoods, with fewer than a thousand residents and mostly parks, are merged into a neighbouring one. A branch is filed under the neighbourhood or town whose boundary contains it, or under one of those residential districts when it lies near its centre.

Distance is a straight line from the point you pick to the closest branch, rounded to the nearest half kilometre. Your location is requested only when you press the button and it stays in your browser.

Points placed from an address are approximate. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors; neighbourhood boundaries from the Comune di Milano open data, under a Creative Commons BY licence.
